College Overview
1) Existing Departments and Programs
The College of Science and Technology was established in August 1998. It comprises the Department of Electrical Engineering (M.S. and Ph.D. programs), the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (M.S. and Ph.D.), the Department of Civil Engineering (M.S. and Ph.D.), the Department of Applied Chemistry (M.S. and Ph.D.), the Biomedical M.S. Program in the Department of Applied Chemistry, the Department of Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering (M.S.), the M.S. Program in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Ph.D. Program in Smart Precision Agriculture for Academia–Industry R&D, and the College-wide Bachelor’s Program.
2) Faculty and Students
The College has 74 full-time faculty members (52 Professors, 18 Associate Professors, and 4 Assistant Professors) and 1,354 students in total (1,142 undergraduates, 168 master’s students, and 44 doctoral students).
3) Interdisciplinary Focus Areas and Programs
To cultivate students with diversified professional competencies and integrate departmental strengths, the College advances featured research in: “Communications and Multimedia Technologies” (Electrical Engineering; Computer Science and Information Engineering), “Nanomaterials and Advanced Optoelectronics” (Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Applied Chemistry), “Disaster Prevention Technologies” (Civil Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Computer Science and Information Engineering), “Biomedical Technologies and Analytical Techniques” (Applied Chemistry; Electrical Engineering; Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering), and “Organic Optoelectronics and Materials Devices” (Applied Materials and Optoelectronic Engineering; Applied Chemistry; Electrical Engineering). It has also launched the Ph.D. Program in Smart Precision Agriculture for academia–industry R&D and actively implements the Ministry of Education’s University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives, promoting sustainability in environment and energy as well as cross-disciplinary applications of artificial intelligence.
4) Student Achievements
To build core competencies that balance theory and practice—innovation and independent thinking, communication and teamwork, awareness of global trends, and professional excellence—faculty actively mentor students to present papers domestically and internationally. Our students have received awards from industry, government agencies, and professional societies, including:
- Macronix Golden Silicon Awards (Jury Grand Prize)
- Third place in the “Faraday Asia Innovation Design Contest”
- First place in the Individual Elite Award at the “National Engineering Mechanics Elite Camp”
- Silver Medal (Application Software) at the “Centennial Open-Source Software Creation Competition”
- Gold Award in the “Green Innovation App” category at the 3rd AUO Green Ark Awards (national competition)
- Recognitions and a First Prize at the “National Electronic Design Innovation Competition” (including the HwaLienNet Special Award)
- Merit Award at the 11th “Microcontroller Campus Project R&D Competition”
Students have authored and presented hundreds of papers at venues across the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Australia, China, Greece, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Macao, and more; several works received distinctions such as Excellence and Honorable Mention.
